Jumpstart Your Next Book
Researching, plotting, or just plain procrastinating about your next manuscript? Attendees should come armed with a notebook and index cards for this intense workshop. Writers will be expected to: create characters, plot, and theme. In addition, “voice” and “tone” will be addressed as well as research and creating a working calendar.

Creating Unforgettable Characters
Elizabeth Bennett & Mr. Darcy, Heathcliff & Catherine, Lucy & Ricky . . .Do you remember every detail of their stories, or do you vividly remember the characters? Get beyond the basics to breathe life into the people populating your pages. Each workshop participant will delve beneath the veneer of one or two characters in their manuscript to add depth. The group will work on the birth and growth of a character, use of plot, and character growth arcs. In addition, dialogue, and deep point of view will be discussed.

•• 2006 •• Sophia’s first 3 books earn eight national awards. Her last Signet Regency Lord Will & Her Grace is named a “Top Ten Romance of the Year” by BOOKLIST, the publication of the American Library Association. Over 2,400 romance titles are considered each year for this honor.

•• 2005 •• Sophia’s second novel, A Passionate Endeavor, wins a coveted RITA Award given by the Romance Writers of America. This award is considered one of the highest honors within the industry. In addition, Sophia’s three books are #1, 2, and 3 on Amazon’s Regency Romance Bestseller list and A Passionate Endeavor wins Romantic Times Magazine Best Regency of the Year.

•• 2004 •• Sophia’s first book A Secret Passion was released and she was featured along with her friend, fellow author, Kathryn Caskie, on the March 2004 issue of Romantic Times BOOKclub magazine. (Click the images to download article).

••2002 •• Sophia’s first manuscript A Secret Passion is a finalist for a Romance Writers of America Golden Heart Award for unpublished authors. Later that year, Signet/New American Library offers a contract for Sophia’s first two novels.

Short Bio
Sophia Nash’s first three novels won eight national awards including the prestigious RITA Award and a spot on the American Library Association's “Top Ten Romances of the Year.” Sophia was born in Switzerland, raised in France and the United States, but says her heart resides in Regency England. Her ancestor, an infamous French admiral who traded epic cannon fire with the British Royal Navy, is surely turning in his grave. Before pursuing her long held dream of writing Historicals, Sophia was an award winning television producer for CBS, a congressional speechwriter, and a nonprofit CEO.

Additional information
~ Sophia was originally a Television reporter and producer for the CBS affiliate in Miami-WTVJ. She produced programs for PM MAGAZINE and the WTVJ news department for five years.

~ While in Washington, D.C. she was the Worldnet television producer for the first ever interactive broadcasts between the United States and the Soviet Union.

~ She was also a speechwriter on Capitol Hill and a Press Secretary, and a Congressional Liaison for a State Department-related agency.

~ Before turning to writing full-time, Sophia was the CEO of the non-profit Washington International Horse Show for almost a decade.

~ Sophia lives with her husband and two children in the suburbs of Maryland, half an hour from our nation's capitol.
