Release day usually means jittery excitement for most writers. Many of us do booksignings or spend the day blogging about the new release. But the icing on the cake? A nice review. The cherry on top of the icing? A great starred review. Booklist recently joined Library Journal in awarding this honor.
*Secrets of a Scandalous Bride. “Expertly spiced with deliciously subtle sense of wit, deftly seasoned with a superbly nuanced cast of characters, and featuring a plot brimming with lusciously sensual romance and a dash of dangerous intrigue, Secrets of a Scandalous Bride, is Nash’s best book yet.” — John Charles for Booklist

Lovely reviews are pouring in for Secrets of a Scandalous Bride, which will be released on Feb. 23. Here’s the latest from Library Journal: **Starred Review** After successfully evading for two years the suit of a highly ranked military officer who threatens to ruin her late father’s reputation, Elizabeth Ashburton eventually encounters her nemesis and, finally has the courage and the unexpected assistance of notorious villain Rowland Manning to face up to the threat. VERDICT: Graced with empathetic characters, emotional intricacy, and unexpected plot twists, this final book in the “Widows Club” series ties up a variety of loose ends and is a perfectly delicious series finale.

Delighted to announce that LOVE WITH THE PERFECT SCOUNDREL was just nominated for Best Regency-set Historical in 2009 by Romantic Times magazine! The snowy view from my writing area this week reminds me of the first scene in the story.

Just finished Captive of Sin, Anna Campbell’s newest novel. What I liked best about this novel is that both hero and heroine were deserving champions. I’ve loved all of Anna’s stories, but this one will hold a special place on my keeper shelf. The two great characters are both tortured yet the horrors of their past cannot change the beauty of their innate generous natures. Move over Mr. Darcy and Eliza Bennett . . . Bravo, Anna!

The last three Septembers I’ve been immersed in three things: fleshing out a new book, sending my children back to school, and . . . collecting milkweed. Yes, milkweed, the preferred food of monarch caterpillars. This year we are raising four. As I watched one of them escaping from its chrysalis, I could not help but recognise the similarity between the birth of a butterfly and the birth of a book. In the latter, ideas flutter around in my mind until they solidify and evolve into something that is ready to be born. Or not. Many times story ideas are spewed out and tucked inside a blue file folder never to see the light of day. But today after many anxious days, just like this monarch . . . a story was born! More on that later…
