Workshops 
These are intensive workshops designed specifically for writing groups.

 

Jumpstart Your Next Book 
Researching, plotting, or just plain procrastinating about your next manuscript? Attendees should come armed with a notebook and index cards for this intense workshop. Writers will be expected to: create characters, plot, and theme. In addition, “voice” and “tone” will be addressed as well as research and creating a working calendar.

 

Creating Unforgettable Characters
Elizabeth Bennett & Mr. Darcy, Heathcliff & Catherine, Lucy & Ricky . . .Do you remember every detail of their stories, or do you vividly remember the characters? Get beyond the basics to breathe life into the people populating your pages. Each workshop participant will delve beneath the veneer of one or two characters in their manuscript to add depth. The group will work on the birth and growth of a character, use of plot, and character growth arcs. In addition, dialogue, and deep point of view will be discussed.

Tricks of the Trade: Insider Secrets to Getting Published 
Ever wondered what big time New York Times bestselling authors know that sets their books apart from the rest? There must be a secret right? There isn’t one. It turns out there are many insider secrets. Sophia asked over twenty bestselling authors to give their tips on getting published, how to write a bestseller, and how to stay published.

This workshop will challenge novices and pros to reexamine their current ideas on the topics presented and learn what the leaders on the lists have to say.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS 
2006 ~ The author's first 3 books earn eight national awards. Her last Signet Regency, Lord Will & Her Grace is named a “Top Ten Romance of the Year” by BOOKLIST, the publication of the American Library Association. Over 2,400 romance titles are considered each year for this honor.

2005 ~A Passionate Endeavor, wins a coveted RITA Award given by the Romance Writers of America. This award is considered one of the highest honors within the industry. In addition, Sophia’s three books are #1, 2, and 3 on Amazon’s Regency Romance Bestseller list and A Passionate Endeavor wins Romantic Times Magazine Best Regency of the Year.

~ 2004 ~ A Secret Passion was released and she was featured on the cover of the March 2004 issue of Romantic Times BOOKclub magazine. (Click the images to download article).

~2002 ~ Sophia’s first manuscript A Secret Passion is a finalist for a Romance Writers of America Golden Heart Award for unpublished authors. Later that year, Signet/New American Library offers a contract for Sophia’s first two novels.

 

 

 

 

BIO

Whispering in French, Sophia Nash’s first work of Women’s Fiction was published by William Morrow/HarperCollins in August 2017 to critical acclaim. The American Library Association’s review publication, Booklist, stated, ‘a literary tour de force’ in its starred review. At present, Nash is developing a novel set during WWI and WWII in France. The author of twelve additional books, all Regency era Historicals , Nash’s works have garnered fourteen national awards, including the prestigious RITA Award, and two spots on Booklist’s "Top Ten Romances of the Year." Her books are translated and published in almost a dozen countries.

 

Before pursuing a writing career, Nash was an award-winning US television producer for a CBS affiliate, and an international television producer in Washington/Paris/London/Geneva/Moscow. She produced the first ever live, interactive broadcasts from Moscow to numerous points in the western world during the 1980s. She was also a congressional speech writer, USIA/State Dept. Congressional Liaison, and CEO of an international Olympic-qualifier sporting event--a nonprofit organization benefitting children’s charities. She attended UCLA and received a Bachelor of Science in Communications from the University of Miami. Born in Switzerland, a citizen of both America and France, Nash is fluent in French and English. Currently, she lives in the Washington, DC area.
